Hepatica nobilis This beautiful little flower covers the forest floor in the upper parts of the forest. It comes in a full range of colours from pure white to a dark purple. Walking through or working in the forest during this time it's almost a shame as there are such carpets of the flowers that it is inevitable that you will tread on some.
Reading more about this beautiful plant I learned that it is myrmecochorous, meaning that it replies on ants for it's seed dispersal. There must be many ants at La Taillede!
This plant always grows under the forest canopy at La Taillede, I have not yet found it growing in the open.
