We have been wanting to get chickens for ages; and just this week, Matt finished fixing up the mobile chicken shed so we could finally get some! There are 8 nesting boxes, natural hazel perches, ventilation, closing doors and a safe mobile run so they can forage around outside. There are too many predators here to leave them roaming free but we still wanted them to have the benefit of fresh earth to turn over so the mobile system is the best option for them.
The shed itself used to be a box trailer, but Nige used the chassis and wheels to make a trailer so the chicken shed is on ski's!
We bought 12 hens and a cockerel from professional breeders down on the plain. We have a mixture of Rousse, Marans, Sussex and Coucou de Rennes. We are getting 8-11 eggs a day at the moment which is great from 12 hens.
It's fun to walk down to the chickens with the kids & check the egg boxes in the morning.
